Why frown when you can smile?

Anger is a momentary madness, so control your passion or it will control you.

–Horace.

A lot of us have a habit of getting angry at trivial issues. Also, we have a problem when it comes to controlling our anger. Some of us even fail to realize it. There are times when we feel excessively angry, all we need to do then, is calm ourselves down because anger leads to words of wrath which in turn, ruins the peace of mind and sometimes relationships as well.

Knowing that you cannot control your anger, but not doing something about it, is like being awake but not aware. So, if you know that you have a problem, you got to find a solution to it. The idea that you cannot control your anger is a mere myth.

The truth is that you can control everything about you and your life, let alone anger.

At situations when you get angry, here’s what you can do:

  • You can probably isolate yourself and do a little soliloquy to make yourself understand that things can be sorted out in a better way rather than getting angry and messing up. Though a little part of you may remain angry but your inner voice will help you keep a distance from anger. Remember, you are the best person to deal with yourself.
  • Do some deep breathing. This will help you calm down and when you’ll calm down you’ll probably be able to think over the cause of your anger and cure it.
  • You can always think about something/someone which/who you find soothing and try to divert your mind to the other happier things/moments so that you kinda forget about the being angry.
  • Anger often happens due to stress. Stress leads to frustration and you vent out this very frustration by being angry. In our ever so busy lives, we often get stressed because of our work, so always love what you do and do what makes you happy and satisfied.
  • Try overcoming anger by practicing it’s opposite virtues, such as, love and compassion.
  • When angry, try to take a long walk in nature’s lap. Look at the trees, the sky, the roads, the people, feel the wind. You can also listen to your favourite music during your walk. All of this will definitely soothe you and lower your temper.
  • Try not to speak when you’re angry because words spoken in anger are often harsh and coarse and they heat up the situation which in turn spreads negativity and makes matter worse.

You will be able to achieve the aforementioned tasks and be successful only if you have the determination. A determination to control your mind and overcome the anger.

By controlling your anger every time, I, of course, don’t mean that you should keep quiet and put up with injustice or something wrong. Instead of choosing anger, you should choose a peaceful way of handling it. Anger is something that is always there, but the best part is you have the full power to control it. So, relax, you have an amazing life and you wouldn’t want to ruin it by bringing in anger into it. Forget the frown, instead stick a smile (a genuine one) and see the world smiling back at you!

Peace.
